Team members Christine Tang (gr. 5), Evan Darowish (Gr. 5), Rohan Tomkins (gr. 4) and Jason Lyn-Sue (gr. 4) solve “24 cards” by using each of four digits once and only once and any of the basic operations (multiply, divide, add, subtract) to make a total of 24. They typically solve 6-8 cards per minute! One of their favorite cards is a card with the numbers 10, 9, 16 and 4. How do you make 24 out of that? It’s as easy as 144/6 (16x9=144 and 10-4=6, so 144/6).
Christine Tang was the overall individual point winner in the 100 student field from across the Capital Region. Jason Lyn-Sue (gr. 4), competing against 5th graders, earned 3rd place overall.
