As the end of the year is wrapping up, 2nd grade students are still hard at work learning and having fun! Students in Mrs. Miller's 2nd grade WIN class went on a scavenger hunt as a closure activity for a book they read together. They had to use information from the book, "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" to complete a scavenger hunt and unlock a box that had their 'Golden Tickets'. They then used their ticket for entrance to see the movie.

Peep, peep, peep can be heard coming from the third-grade classrooms! Chicks have hatched! Third graders are finishing up their embryology unit this week! They have learned about the life cycle of a chicken, care of chickens, and about how producers and commodities are important to agriculture. This was an EGG-cellent EGG-perience!
Congratulations to our 4th grade students who were awarded the Dauphin County Medical Society Alliance Science Awards. We are so proud of you all!
Congratulations to our elementary teachers, Mrs. Stahl, Mrs. Cin, Mrs. Miller, Mrs. Brandt, Mrs. Paukovitch, Mrs. Hoke, and Mrs. Kulina, in being awarded a Tanger Grant. These ladies worked to write grant proposals to support educational initiatives in their classrooms. They were awarded funds to support ideas such as flexible seating, robotic coding, reading, and an elementary discovery and collaboration zone. Thank you to these teachers for taking the time to write these grants that support our students and learning!
Fourth graders and Kindergarteners teamed up to make costumes for the ECC Reading Incentive Parade. The students enjoyed working together to create an octopus body and hat. The students, big and small, enjoyed working together in our school’s community!
The Hershey Elementary Math 24 Team won their first ever Capital Area Intermediate Unit (CAIU) regional 24 tournament on Monday, just edging out longtime favorites, Cumberland Valley! Students earned their spots on the team by being the top 4 players at our school tournament in March.
Team members Christine Tang (gr. 5), Evan Darowish (Gr. 5), Rohan Tomkins (gr. 4) and Jason Lyn-Sue (gr. 4) solve “24 cards” by using each of four digits once and only once and any of the basic operations (multiply, divide, add, subtract) to make a total of 24. They typically solve 6-8 cards per minute! One of their favorite cards is a card with the numbers 10, 9, 16 and 4. How do you make 24 out of that? It’s as easy as 144/6 (16x9=144 and 10-4=6, so 144/6). Christine Tang was the overall individual point winner in the 100 student field from across the Capital Region. Jason Lyn-Sue (gr. 4), competing against 5th graders, earned 3rd place overall. Third grade teachers and parents organized the first ever "Career Days" during the month of April. Students learned about 14 different careers and completed a booklet of details about each career. Upon the competition of a student's elementary years, each will have a career portfolio containing artifacts of learning. Our school counselors have also incorporated guidance lessons in the classrooms on the different standards as well. We appreciate all of the parent and community volunteers who made this event successful!
