Second graders have been STEAMing it up in Mrs. Kensinger’s classroom. After reading several interpretations of The Three Little Pigs, students were challenged to engineer a prototype for a structure that could withstand the huffing and puffing of the Big Bad Wolfe! Students followed the design process of Asking, Imagining, Creating, Testing and Improving their designs as they prepared to test each prototype against the power of a hair dryer. Construction materials included straws, connectors and Playdough. Children concluded that a sturdy cubical or triangular type of structure with a strong foundation seemed to withstand the wind the best!

The PTO party planners created an amazing party for our 4th grade students. While fun and interactive, the students were also partying with a purpose. They created stockings for soldiers. Please see this link for the full story https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=wHym16B740w
Currently, third grade students are working on a writing unit all about service animals. Laura Theurer and Gino, a seeing eye dog in training, visited third grade classrooms last week. The presenter shared with students the jobs of seeing eye dogs along with what the training process involves. This is Laura’s 14th seeing eye dog so she was able to share many experiences with students to create a deeper understanding of the hard work and dedication it takes from everyone to place a seeing eye dog with someone in need. The session ended with student led questions and a chance to pet Gino.
