First grade students in Miss Slatt’s class recently built a structure that could withstand the Huff and Puff of a wolf! Students read a version of the classic tale, Three Little Pigs, and were challenged to build a prototype of a shelter that could stand up against the force of a blow dryer. The constraints included using only straws, connectors, and Playdough. Students found that a firm, sturdy foundation was key in meeting the challenge. They also learned that good designs often need to be tested and improved upon.
